March 24th, 2008

Juz got back from chiang mai yesterday..5D4N thing…it was good fun…eventgh there wasnt too much to see…
Day 1 :
Touched down ard 11am..time diff was 1 hour earlier than msian time..so we kinda saved 1 hour of time..wanted to feel the REAL thing…so, planned…PLANNED (important word) to take the local bus which supposingly SUPPOSINGLY (another important word) cost 15baht…well, after waiting for a lil over an hour..i decided to take my selfcompiled guide of chiang mai & checked out the bus part…which clearly states…”the OFF&ON bus service” the next thing we knew, we were on a red truck for 80 baht to the night market..cool eh..where do u find the adjective “off & on” to describe a service…wow..chiang mai BOLEH..msia now has a competitor..
After a good 10-15mins bumpiest ride…we reached the night bazaar which is the centre of town…got off , looked up & behold….MC’D….without hesitation, went in ordered ourselves the BEST burger in the world..**MC’D Burger BabI ** yummy…
Then, it was off to look for our lil hut…we ended in this place called Noi’s Hse for 550Baht..then…zzzZZZzzZzzz

DAY2:
Chiang Mai Tour..we took the FREE package which provided a sight seeing tour of chiang mai…yea..our two legs & a map..(well, not a map..i like kinda collected 10 maps) *KIASU* anyways..we walked all the way to tha pae gate…across the moat into the old city..our destination : 3 KINGS MONUMENT-> fuhhh! walk thru like 3 blocks & found it…nuthin spectacular..but the thing tat WAS spectacular was this shop beside this monument..with a banner “THE BEST KAO SOI in Chiang Mai” apa buat lagi? makan lah..keke..so off we went..into the shop with the locals..ordered ourselves 1 kao soi & 1 chick rice..which we in the end added rice to..this was GOOD…then we walked to warorot mkt…on the other side of town..got a bit lost & walk the whole of chiang mai..*ta-da* wat a way to spend ur time, eh? but we DID have fun, nevertheless..

DAY3:
Took a package tour for about 1000baht/person & went up north to chiang rai. 1st stop, hot spring..like the ones in Pedas…so ya da ya da…next the white temple..this is sumthin to look at..its reli beatiful but wat made it more interestin was the paintings inside the temple..the side walls of the entrance was painted with kinda funny graphics..there was this whole wall painted as Hell…but the twist was…our fren superman was there…ultraman…even NEO was there…& there was also a pic of a pair of converse shoes..so…hmm…*go figure* It was indeed an eye opener..
Then it was off to the golden triangle which was where the 3 rivers of 3 diff countries meet…myanmar, laos & thai..we tooka boat ride which cost 300baht to step foot into laos..so yea..300baht to say u’ve been to laos…ok wut… ( not forgetting, u need to pay land tax for stepping on laos ground..20baht/person)*no complains*
Next stop was the northern most part of thailand called mae sai which is also the myanmar border. Nuthin much too..also…a easy way to say u’ve been to myanmar
Finally..it was the hilltribe visit…we saw the big ears & long neck tribes..this was COOL…bought a few things without bargaining juz to show some support..since these ppl aren’t allowed to go out freely..so..yea..it was cool…found out that the girls starts to be ring-ed up as early as 3-4yrs old…& have no choice…they would be sent out of the village if they reject..btu of cos..wat do they know at 3-4 yrs of age..sighzz…another 3hours of travel…& we’re BACK in chiang mai. stopped at 7 eleven…BURGER BABI-ed ourselves…20baht/burger…cheap but SUPERB yummy…

Day4:
Got up early in the morn…with a mission..
took a cab to mae sa valley in the mae rim area…
paid 2000baht, chose a shirt, got tied up…& jumped into a cage…
*tu tu tu tu tu tu tu…it like went on like forever….tu tu tu…& lastly a loud bang..*
this was it…the moment i’ve been waiting for…my mission….
bungy guy :ready?
janz : ready lah…hehehe…*tis is crazee tis is crazee*
bungy guy shouts : 3 - 2 -
janz : aiyak…wait wait wait
bungy guy :ready?…. 3 - 2 -
janz : aiyo….wait wait wait *dedub dedub dedub..suddenly my heart got a voice of itself*
then, i turned back & looked at the chair..sed to myself…”u wanna sit down n go down meh…sooo MALU…”
so, turned back to the cliff…heard my baby shout ” i love u baby!!” took a deep breath & cheated my brain..haha..
3 - 2(i let the bar i held on to go) sed oops & ————-silence———————aAaAAaAaaAaAaAAAAaAaAAaAaa….
(i started screaming CRAZEE only wen i was about to touch the water)
n scream-ed n scream-ed n scream-ed n scream-ed n scream-ed…n then started laughin nuts…
reli din believe i DID IT..i finally DID It..

Calmed down, felt like a HERO…& my advice to EVERYBODY…if u wanna commit sucide, DUN CHOOSE JUMPING OFF a building…its not a nice feeling before u DIE..kekeke…

50m -> bloodshot face -> screeeeeeeetching voice -> A-W-E-S-O-M-E *fullstop*

AT 3pm, we strolled down the DEAD streets of chiang mai…looking for food..ended up in a massage parlour…its official!! chiang mai massage is BETTER than BANGKOK massage….its not the masseus but the technique, the kung fu…SHIOK lah!!

At nite, we strolled down to the Ping river…& lepak-ed at a cafe called good view restaurant..it was so-so..ambiance was nice..but the mosquitoes weren’t…so..yea..it was okay..dunked a jug of beer..me & jooz…& chilled thru the nite..

Day5:
BALIK-ed…this time we took the tuk-tuk finally…its funny here…all the locals NVR recommends the tuk-tuk..they say its very expensive…but wat the heck…trip to thailand wunt be complete without the dust eating experience on these machines…

Kelly Tan E Li, media darling or a mere pawn in the greater scheme of things?

March 3rd, 2008

Noticed something different about The Billboard?

The Love Diamond (a Carat Club brand) wasn’t about to let all that publicity go to waste, so they decided to add a short caption publicly affiliating their company with the whole Tan-Tan fairytale. Billboard now reads:

Kelly Tan E Li, Will You Marry Me?
Unforgettable moments only with The Love Diamond.

The Love Diamond's sneaky involvement with the Tan-Tan fairytaleSpeculation is rife that the sequence of events leading up to TLD’s involvement was all premeditated. As conspiracy theorists would likely agree, David and TLD planned the whole public wedding proposal/ad campaign tie-in right from the start. After all, RM40k is a lot for one person to pay - even if you’re filthy rich.

Heck, Kelly Tan E Li might not even be a real person! She might have just been some fictional character created for the ad campaign! Adam King wasn’t. Kilroy wasn’t. A little too far-fetched? Mind my overactive imagination :)

So what actually transpired? Anyone with the skinny?

Billboard media owners and ad agencies just proved that controversial, attention-grabbing billboards do in fact, work. I can just imagine ad execs using a Kelly Tan E Li case study in their sales pitches.

So,
#1 Kudos to TLD and/or their ad agency for quick thinking to get on board the recent wave of publicity.
#2 Props to David who turned his expensive wedding proposal into a money-making ad. Quite brilliant.

Why my little obsession with Kelly and David’s lives? Nothing serious really. Just noticed there was very little blog coverage on this rather amusing Klang Valley episode so there you go - some creative citizen journalism to spice things up.

This will be the last of Kelly and David as far as this blog is concerned. Promise.

Where to vote during Election 2008

February 19th, 2008

I don’t normally write about current events, but the recent post about David Tan’s very public proposal to Kelly Tan E Li just blew the visitor stat count for this blog wayyy into the stratosphere.

So if you guys are still reading, I thought I’d do a little community service and point you to the website of Suruhanjaya Pilihan Raya (Election Commission of Malaysia). Don’t know where to go to vote?

Check this out: http://daftarj.spr.gov.my/daftarbi.asp

I hope many of you who are reading this are already registered voters. If you’re not, do find out how and where to register as a voter. Exercise your right to choose your government!

Who is Kelly Tan E Li and is she the luckiest girl in town?

February 14th, 2008

By the time I’m done writing this, many Klang Valley dwelling bloggers would have already covered this piece of news. Can’t beat them to it, so join the horde of shutter-happy folks and snap away, I say.

UPDATE (3/3/08): The Love Diamond has a part to play in this story. Read about it here.

UPDATE (15/2/08): As it turns out, this stunt is indeed the real thing! Not some clever marketing campaign (as I’d hope for) but an extravagant idea mooted by David Tan, an account executive working for a local(?) ad agency.

Information was revealed on The Star Online this morning. I wonder just how many strings were pulled (or purse strings loosened!) just to make this happen. RM40k for the media buy and RM14k for the ring to top it off. David and Kelly, all the best in your lives together ahead :)

What’s the fuss about? Some dude’s proposing to his girlfriend, that’s what. On a freakin’ billboard (!) at one of the busiest roads in town: the LDP (!!)

Spending big to get the girlBillboard reads: “Kelly Tan E Li, Will You Marry Me?”

I mean, seriously, you gotta be paying sh*tloads to pull of a stunt like that (and have balls of steel in case she says ‘no’), yes?

If this is someone’s idea of a marketing campaign (think: who is adam king?, kilroy), I think it’s working! Why? Because it resonates with everyone at some personal level. Girls gush over how romantic this dude is. Guys go “Who the hell does this dude think he is? Bloody show-off!”. If this really is a genuine wedding proposal, this fella might have just raised the bar for all guys thinking of dropping the Big Question (thank God ours is over)

Either way, there’s just no denying how much hoo-ha this thing is gonna create. It’ll only be a matter of hours before major newspapers pick up the story.

I’m just over-analyzing here. Anyone with a clue? Feel free to leave a comment.

The center is the beginning of new

February 5th, 2008

The office is one big mess. Literally.

In case you were wondering, I’ve just moved into my new office at Centre Point, Bandar Utama.

So for those who might find this information useful, here’s the new company address:

Integricity Corporation Sdn Bhd
Lot S6-7, 2nd floor, Centre Point
Lebuh Bandar Utama, Petaling Jaya
47800 Selangor.

As I write this, the floor is littered with half opened cardboard boxes and odd wires sticking out from under the carpet. At least the dust has settled and the ac’s working fine.

There’s a large transparent glass wall looming behind my back. Don’t get me wrong.. I’ve got nothing against glass but when it gets to the point where anyone who walks by the office can see what’s on my screen, it borders on invasion of privacy. Verdict’s still out on whether I’ll ever get used to the new office layout.

The good thing is that we’ve got a foosball table, so that should be a welcomed distraction if ever work gets a little mundane.

One more day to the Lunar New Year (read: time off from work for loads of buckle-busting food to keep the tummy happy) so for those who celebrate, here’s wishing you Gong Xi Fatt Chai! May you enjoy lots of prosperity and ang pow money. Just don’t go losing your loot to the gambling hantu.

Till next time.

P.S: This post was written using Microsoft’s Live Writer. Just messing around for now, though I might use it regularly if I find it reliable.
